Foto: Murray Wright Wow what a stonking bird!!! I'm still shaking like a leaf!!!!!! It was only seen by myself and the six other lucky seawatchers from the Sea Wall hide at Oare Marshes, Kent from around 10:50 this morning and flew west out of view along the Swale at around 11:10. Fortunately I've seen the species in the Sea of Okhotsk on a trip to Siberia in the mid 1990's, so I knew what it was - although I still can't quite believe it! |

Wow! And even in this plumage! Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the first WP? Unbelievable! Let's hope it turns up in a Puffin colony.

Wauw, what a species for the WP/UK. I think it is the second record for the WP (Sweden not that long ago). Fits in the recent raising number of western US species seen in the WP. Maybe due to the opening of the "Northern Passage"??
We have to keep looking at big auk/guillimot flocks during this winter. I remember there are sometimes daily movements of "auks" along the dutch coast in winter (for example Scheveningen) of wintering birds witch every morning make correction flights, who knows. It stands out I think because it is big, dark and keeps the orange bill in winter.
